Boy on bike

Home Schooled?
Or Truant?

Can You Tell The Difference?
Neither Can He.

New Daytime Curfew Laws are being implemented everywhere. They come cloaked as reaction to juvenile crime, but are often utilized to target the home school community.

What can you do to protect your rights?

One of the most important parts of the home school educational process includes the ability to utilize community resources including parks and libraries during the times that traditional public schools may be in session. Daytime Curfew Laws generally make it illegal for a child less than 18 years old to be in any public place during set "school hours". These ordinances give law enforcement and truancy officials the opportunity to needlessly harass home school students.

PoliceThis harassment is usually the result of a lack of information. Most public officials are completely in the dark concerning state laws that reference home schools. For many years, law enforcement officials have looked upon home schooling as “legalized truancy”. So anyone of student age that is found out in the community during school hours is automatically suspected of being truant.

Until HomeSchool ID created the solution, there was no clear-cut way to differentiate between the home school student out in the community on legitimate business and the truant public school student.

HomeSchool ID provides an ID card for your home school student that has rapidly become the recognized standard for Law Enforcement Officers nationwide.

Many Law Enforcement and Truancy officials have stated that having a student ID card issued by HomeSchool ID is a useful tool that allows them to TELL THE DIFFERENCE.

Home school student identification is a major issue in many communities, and cannot be fixed by printing Student ID cards on the home inkjet printer.

Boy wavingMany organizations encourage the home school families to create ID cards that only reflect their own family, and not the community as a whole. While this can be a fun exercise in design, and seemingly harmless, confusion is the only possible result. Can you imagine the effect if every driver designed and created their own State Drivers License? It is only by having a consistent image that an ID card Program can build “legitimacy” in the minds of the law enforcement and truancy officials.

Various websites that encourage “cheap” or “free” self-designed and printed Student ID cards often refer to their ID cards as “Official Looking”, or even worse, as “seemingly legitimate”. These websites will tell you that you shouldn’t feel guilty about going around the system. These ill-advised claims can lead to Policeman wavingembarrassment and even legal issues. Most do not require any sort of verification of student status; just “design and print”. The end result is that no law enforcement or truancy official will have any idea whether your student is a “legitimate” home school student, or just another public school student skipping school.

A home-made Student ID card, event when laminated, looks just that: home- made. Anyone can make one, including public school students. HomeSchool ID provides the ONLY Student ID card that assures, with confidence, that your student is really home schooled. Do you really want to trust your child’s rights to anything less?

The HomeSchool ID Program was created in 2001 by home school parents, for home school students and parents. We do not sell curriculum, toys or greeting cards. We only offer products directly related to the identification and safety of home school students and educators.
